Book Design

For this project, I chose a textbook that I found difficult to work with and focused on improving its overall design, aiming to create consistency from the cover through to the internal layouts.
(original book)

I chose this book because when I read and studied it before, I noticed that the layout is consistent, with two columns per page and a section of images in the middle. However, the lines are tightly spaced, and the gap between the columns is narrow, making the overall reading experience overwhelming. The images in the center disrupt the flow of the text, leaving me unsure whether to continue reading downward or move to the second column. Since the images lack numbered captions, it's difficult to connect them with the relevant parts of the text. Additionally, the dense text makes it hard to locate specific information, which is a drawback for a textbook that needs to be referenced frequently. In summary, there is too much positive space and almost no negative space, which negatively impacts the layout.
